Command Reference

There are a great number of commands that you can use in Sleepless Nights in order to do things and whilst you don't need to memorise them all it's worth being aware of them. There follows a guide to some of the commands that you can use within the game. The key is experimentation - whatever you want to do, type it - the game will try to understand what you want to do.
 
Navigation: N, S, E, W (To move North, South, East and West), NW, NE, SW, SE (To move NorthWest, NorthEast, SouthWest and SouthEast)
 
UP, DOWN, IN, OUT, JUMP
 
LOOK - to take a look at your surroundings
 
EXITS - to list all obvious exits from the room you are in
 
FOLLOW <player> - Use this to follow another player around.

 
Communication: To say something to people in the same room as you SAY <message>
 
To say something to everybody who is on the game, GOSSIP <message>
 
TELL <player> <message> - To say something to another player.
 
BEG <message> - This will pass on your message to any available wizards. Do not annoy them!
 
CONVERSE - Puts you into 'converse' mode. This is used to talk to people without having to precede everything with 'say'.
You cannot move around or perform other actions whilst in converse mode.
 
Object Manipulation: GET, DROP - To pick things up and put 'em down.
 
WEAR, REMOVE - To put things on and take 'em off.
 
GIVE <player> <item> - To give something to someone.
 
STEAL <item> Player> - To take something from someone.
 
INVEN - This lists all of the items in your inventory.
 
EXAMINE <item> - Use this to take a good close look at something.
 
PUT <item> <place> - For putting something somewhere.
 
COMPARE <weapon1> <weapon2> - Use this to work out which of two weapons is better.
 
ASSIST <player> - For helping another player do something.
 
EAT <food> - If your strength is low then having some food and knowing the 'eat' command is very important.
 
OPEN, CLOSE, LOCK, UNLOCK - Knowing how to manipulate doors can be useful.

MAP - This will show you some of the more important places to visit.
 
WHO - Lists the other people who are playing.
 
LEVELS - A list of the levels through which you must ascend on your way to immortality.
 
WIZLIST - Type this for a list of Sleepless Nights esteemed wizards.
 
QUESTS - A list of the quests that you've yet to complete.
 
VALUE <item> - This will tell you how many points an item would be worth if you sacrificed it to the gods.
 
POST <subject> - The post command is used to add a message to one of the bulletin boards in the game.
 
Also try . . . VERSION, VALUE, PN, CREDITS
 
MudMail: Once you reach level two you will be able to use the MudMail system to send messages to other players that they can read later.
 
MAIL - This shows you any mail you have waiting.
RMSG <number> - Use this to read any of your waiting mail.
DELMSG <number> - Use this to delete any unwanted messages.
MAILTO <player> - Use this to write a mail for another player. Be sure to capitalize the players name; Eg. Mailto Scooby.
 
Combat: KILL <victim> - Use this to attack a monster or another player, but make sure you're well equipped for a battle.
 
WIELD <weapon> - If you've picked up a weapon you need to wield it before you can use it in a fight.
 
FLEE <direction> - If you are in a fight and you want to retreat - use the flee command.
 
General Purpose: SAVE - To save your characters details. All characters are automatically saved at regular intervals.
 
QUIT - What would you want to do that for?
 
RESET - The game resets itself every couple of hours. Use this command to find out when this will happen next.
 
SCORE - Use this to keep tabs on how well you're doing.
 
COLOUR - If your telnet program supports it you can use 'colour' to enable coloured text, or to disable it.
 
NOGOSSIP - If you don't want to hear peoples gossips, you want to use nogossip.
 
HEARBACK - If your telnet program doesn't let you see what you're typing, hearback will type it back to you.
 
BUG - Use this to report a bug in the game.
 
TYPO - Use this to report any spelling mistakes.
 
BRIEF - This will give you a less detailed description of your surroundings when you enter a location.
 
VERBOSE - This will give you a more detailed description of your surroundings when you enter a location.
 
Emotions: In some rooms you can use the 'emote' command to show an action. For example if you type 'emote velcros himself to the ceiling' everybody else would see 'Scooby velcros himself to the ceiling' (or whoever you are). However you cannot use emote in most of the game. You can, however, use any of the other emotion commands. There are a great number of emotion commands and it can be fun trying them out. Try these:
 
BLUSH, SQUEEK, BURBLE, YAWN, HICCUP, BURP, SMILE, MEDITATE, SHRUG, COUGH, MOAN, GROAN, PURR, SULK, NOD, SIGH, SNIFF, FART, BEG, GURGLE, WAVE, WINK, SING, DANCE, SCREAM, LAUGH, CRY, GIGGLE, SNIGGER, SNICKER, SMOKE, APOLOGIZE, CHUCKLE, GRIN, BOW, BOUNCE, SNEER, SMIRK, QUACK, COOL, WOOF, ROFL, DOH, HUFF, WHINE, HOP, DROOL, SILLY, MARTIAN, BARK, PANIC, CENSOR, APPLAUD, BLINK, SCOWL, EYES, PONDER, STRUT, TWIDDLE, HEHE, FRET, WORRY, JELLO, EYE, SWOON, CRINGE, SHUDDER, CURTSEY, SNEEZE, POINT
 
Some emotion commands can be used with other people (eg. Hug Portia). Try these on someone:
